Why do you want to hold my ankles in wheel pose?

Wheel Pose

Last week, a yoga student asked if he could hold my ankles for his Wheel pose. This was a first for me, but I said yes. Let’s see how it goes. I stood at the top of his mat, facing him. He clutched my ankles and hoisted himself up, chest expanding, arms strong. He closed his eyes and smiled. Hmm. This week, it happened with another student and I agreed. I allowed her to grab my ankles, then she inhaled up with one breath, expanding and lifting her chest while broadening her shoulders. I assisted further by lifting her upper back with my palms. Her closed eyes and smiling sigh said it all. So, I had to look it up!! The Wheel assist can be done with a partner or by yourself with two blocks and a wall. Enjoy! 🙂
